Album Review

After having to deal with the sad realities of music industry, creative head Noah Sow ventured out to look for like-minded people which would end up forming NOISEAUX which means, roughly translated, “Mixed Nuts”. These five people now went into the studio and started producing what will now be released on 18th September as ‘Out Now’.

First I thought my speakers hit the bucket when the album opener ‘Wartezimmer’ sounded, but luckily it was just a distortion effect on the impulsive track’s lead-in. Pumping beats swirl around haunting riffs on the rather short effort. But don’t you worry, because the next song ‘Stillstand’ is equally making your adrenaline level rise, while adding a slight slice of synth melancholy for good measure. ‘Stempel’ seems to tell about a really sad way of life. Going somewhere, getting drunk, fall asleep somewhere and waking up the next day not knowing what happened the other night, and not even bothering, because it’s still better than going back home. ‘Hauptsache weg von hier’ is quite a melody-driven yet also gloomy number about the promised lands waiting for you on the horizon. But will they also keep their promises, or turn out as the same forlorn wasteland you just escaped from?

The closing act ‘Zeig mir die Nacht’ is the only cover song on this album originally by German band MÜNCHNER FREIHET. It apparently begins with electronic drumming, but I’m just not sure right now. Could be processed acoustic ones as well! Anyway, I don’t know the original song, but I know about the style of MÜNCHNER FREIHEIT, and this new, more rocking outfit definitely sounds better. All in all, the album is a straight, honest piece of well-crafted rock music and recommendable. By the way, if you wondered how the album tracks would sound with English lyrics check the second CD. I think this is a nice idea and besides that, makes the music accessible to a wider audience.
