Album Review

The provoking artwork perfectly summarizes the motto of the upcoming release the Danish formation NEOTEK will proudly present on 27th November: `Sex, Murder and Rock’n’Roll´ is the bold and at the same time simple title of the album whose first edition contains a 120-minutes DVD as well as five new bonus tracks. Jacob Neis, Henrik Jensen and Jens B Petersen recently signed to Black Rain after they had become well-known representatives in the electro club scene due to dance floor fillers such as `Pink Noise´ and `Mind-Travelling´. Their first full-length recording `Brain over Muscle´ had already been released in 1995. Thus, it took a pretty long time until NEOTEK decided to supply the following with new stuff.

According to the album title, the opener `My Shiny 44´ covers the area of “murder” as it tells an unsettling story from the perspective of a man who shoots and kills his wife. The dark plot is accompanied by gloomy and at the same time icy industrial rhythms. Less drastic but musically very impressing, `Eitelkeit´ provides a catchy refrain and rather melodic verses with a lot of pop-appeal. Far away from being a shallow and repeating soundscape, `Sex, Murder and Rock’n’Roll´ surprises with an astonishing diversity of stylistic features and explosive issues without appearing overloaded or way too intended. For example, the raw vocals on `My Process´ and `Last Call´ promote authenticity and are an expressive contrast to the playful and detailed compositions rounding off the impression of witnessing 11 short films about the depths of the human soul. Highly recommendable!
