Album Review

NACHLADER was already active in times when MTV actually still played music videos with singles such as the single ‘Arbeitsgeld’ (2004) or the ‘An die Wand’ EP from 2005. The debut album ‘Bock auf Aphorismen’ then followed in March 2005 just as the accompanying single ‘Fett’. In the meantime since their last release NACHLADER has done lots of club gigs and DJing with his friend Shokkaboy. Last info is that the band works on a new album are in full swing right now. The band's been working on their new album for quite some time but the new release 'Koma Baby Lebt!' will be finally released next Friday.

I've been confronted with NACHLADER about a year ago within the scopes of a live show and afterwards it was pretty clear I would be keeping an eye out for the band. Some of the  songs on this album already were being presented back then, such as the opener 'Nahause' on which one of NACHLADER's most prominent strengths becomes apparent already: The witty, clever lyrics they combine with a hint of retro electronics and rock. A truly infectious mixture that has to offer something for both the body that's craving for danceable stuff and the mind! 'Pommes Und Disco' uncovers relentlessly the flaws of a character and states quite rightly that life isn't always about having fun and about starting things and not bringing them to an end eventually. At one point you'll have to realize that you need to grow up and go through with at least something. 'Komm Mit' catches the confusing spirit and the behaviour of an entire society and provokes deep, rather than superficial thoughts.

'Raus Auf Die Strasse' highlights the egoism as the unpleasant feature it is, and besides is a neat club track to dance to wildly. Two lives collide again after a long time. One has crawled up the ladder and the other didn't have so much luck. But the former one just pretends to be tolerant; in truth he just pities the other one for his miserable life. It's just one example to show which status such people have in the ranking order of those with money that's presented in 'Hasch'. The song to close the album is 'Atlantis', and while the additional title (Hidden Track) is already a little joke by itself, the song appears just hilarious and like a pun on the carnival culture in certain parts of Germany. Summing up this record also means to give a recommendation for NACHLADER's 'Koma Baby Lebt!'. It's plain fun, makes you want to rock, but also think. These three things are being combined as easy as if the guys have never done anything else.
