Album Review

OMEGA LITHIUM is a band from Croatia self-described as Industrial Metal or Industrial Dance Metal. Maybe so, apparently nowadays the term Industrial has become so broad that can include every band whose members wear waterproof mascara. I think that the best term which describes them is (Sony) BMG Industrial. And yes, they manage to have some fun. As it seems the executives of Sony BMG can still find what might sell the most. Let’s find out what they’re gonna sell and to whom. You’ll find some easy-going Industrial songs, at times charming in their beat or catchy and that holds especially for ‘Strip Me’ or ‘Dance with me’ and the harder moment of the album which is ‘Cut Forgive’. Everything is fine as long as you’re doing something else whilst you’re listening to the album. When I was washing the dishes the band sounded cool, when I actually sat down after a point I found them tiring and tedious. They sound as watered down 69 EYES or more hard HIM and without the usual melodramatic lyrics of the latter.

The problem is that the voice of Mya Mortensen lacks of any depth and passion and the songs remain discharged from any potential energy or feeling. She keeps her voice at a certain acoustic level and with that pretty much the whole album goes on. One also might expect that a band coming from Croatia - which suffered from the civil war - would be influenced omegalithiumflyerand it might have some impact on the lyrics. It is not the case here. If you listen to ‘I am God’ and compares it with let’s say ‘God Is God’ of LAIBACH then you can really easily distinguish between the genius and mediocrity, even a gold mediocrity as the matter of fact. Or you can take the ‘Kinetik’, which is about an android discovering that it has a soul. If one hopes for the song to have something from ‘Blade Runner’ and Rutger Hauer he/she will be majorly disappointed. The android described here is suitable only for eating carrots. As the band says, the material in this CD is “mass- compatible”. I can surely agree on that and I’m giving them kudos for their honesty. Which brings us to the question “whom is it meant for?”

If you still have your milk teeth and all your friends are into the TOKYO HOTEL then, yes, make your small revolution with a harder band. Have a poster of these Industrial fashionistas on your wall. Do prefer though their flyer-poster - the one where they pose with the militaristic long-black coats and the red arm-bands with their black symbol in it. If your grandfather was a member of the SS, the Ustashi and the like he will be so proud of you, it’ll bring back memories to him - and don’t try to convince him otherwise, he will see what he wants to see. As for the band, do me the favour to give concerts around the world wearing exactly these uniforms, I bet they are tomato-proof. Don’t worry, after all it is a photo deliberately created to provoke reactions so your name to become more known... Isn’t it?
