The musical outlet of Belgian composer and producer Kevin Strauwen, TRUE ZEBRA, has produced yet another collection of work with its sophomore ‘Adoremotion’. The new record comprises eight tracks in its digital version yet there's also a physical version with actually nine new songs, available through Bandcamp. The track to open the album goes by the name of 'Push' and it does what it says. A tight groove is building up pretty quickly. The minimalist electronic gadgetry fairly dominates the track except for a few guitar bits. 'Shame' follows right up and goes for a more percussion-based approach when it comes the rhythm. There's some weird electronic trickery going on in that one, it almost makes you forget there's actually vocals in there. Only because thy fit in perfectly with their environment.
'Feel' is' lead entirely by a base line. Everything else, may it be the visceral whispering vocals or the quite heavy beat work merely follows. A stand-out track on the album in my opinion. Spooky is actually the first word that came into mind upon starting with 'Hunt'. In the beginning it comes with a guitar groove wrapped inside a howling breeze of ambience that later on recedes into the background to give way to industrial rock-ish aesthetics with quite a dark, brooding tone to them and 'Lose' is the place where the rock influence is emphasized the most culminating in a rousing crescendo before the track slowly fades into black.. Cleverly produced and off the tracks of already trampled paths TRUE ZEBRA deliver another excellent record that hopefully won't go unnoticed.
