Dynamo, Eindhoven, the Netherlands
26th of August 2007
Trail of Tears, Scenario II

Trail of Tears paid a visit to the Netherlands again. This time accompanied by a band from the Dutch Eindhoven; Scenario II. This was the last performance of this little Dutch tour and a bigger international tour. After this gig a twelve hour drive home awaited them. A new USA tour will be starting in January. But for now they were here to entertain us all evening and they sure did.

Scenario II

This band previously known as Aura has made a new beginning in 2007. They were closing their little tour with Trail of Tears in their hometown Eindhoven. In the Dynamo which has been a legendary club and mostly festival for years. Tonight though Dynamo was a bit quiet, but that was about to change. When Scenario started to play the entire audience moved back a few feet because the wall of sound was overwhelming.

Music
From the first to the last note the wall of music continued. It was a pity the sound technician was not paying that much attention. They played a great show but you could not always hear it. The level of sound was way too high, earplugs were needed. There were screaming grunts coming at you almost constantly but the band did show its other side as well. There were some more silent and intimate moments as well. At times their vocalist Michel sung in a way that was in-between singing and grunting, which sounded great. It was filled with more emotions and that reaches the audience for sure. I also want to make them a compliment on their song titles: Uniforms of Death, Cyanide Suicide, Midnight Roulette. They appeal to the imagination.

Performance
The light during the show of Scenario II was very simple at first. During some heavy moments in music though there were flashing lights used and that emphasised the intensity of the song, which was great. Before they started to play the band was getting ready on stage which was a bit silly, because we could hear them talk. Then when the show started they were all directing their attention to the audience and that was good. They had fun amongst each other as well which is always a positive thing of course. The passion of Michel showed while he was singing. The show was appreciated by the audience because what little audience there was they all came to the front of the stage during the concert.

Trail of Tears

A new album released this year and… a change in the line-up. More then enough reasons to come and visit us again. Fortunately it became busier as the evening progressed. It became a very successful evening. At the end both the band and the audience left with a smile on their face.

Music
We were presented with a mixture of the new album ‘Existentia’ and ‘A New Dimension of Might’. The album in-between those, ‘Free Fall in to Fear’ was not heard at all. You can’t hear me complaining though because my favourite songs were all there. One song from the past was played as well ‘Profondemonium’. Their singer Catherine Paulsen has returned to the band. A treat for all ears. With Kjetil no longer in the band she now also sings his vocal parts. She is still a great singer and she masters both high and low vocals very well. Ronny is of course a great singer was well, his passion is heard in his songs. Besides the fact that the music was a bit too much in volume, in power and passion it was fantastic!

Performance
It is always a pleasure to see Ronny on stage, living/feeling/breathing every song. He is even lip singing along with Catherine all the time. When singing, he stands with one foot on the monitors, tension in his entire body, such a wonderful sight, and sound. He holds that tension until the very last note of each song. Which is sometimes hard for the audience and they start clapping through these last silent moments. There was good interaction between Ronny and Catherine, it appears she is a welcome sight on stage for both audience and the band. Old friends reunited. She was a bit shy on stage, but that will probably change during their upcoming tour through the North of America. The lightshow had improved, more adapted to the music and enough front light to see the entire band, which is often forgotten. There were also some well chosen moments of darkness in the light show. At the end of the show we were thanked for supporting Trail of Tears, Metal and music.
