Album Review

The new album of Canadian industrial formation STAYTE contains 9 rather interesting and diverse tracks that allow you to appreciate all sides of expressiveness of the style. The opening piece, which turns to be a rather leisured and intriguing intro, starts slowly, putting its spell over a listener. But then the voice appears and stops abruptly as the music also fades away, maybe to prove the title of the composition. Yet there’s no time to get bored as the next song comes into force and this time it’s a peculiar composition of industrial rigidity and solid metal riffs, supplemented with tuneful inclusions and wailing vocals, intended to intensify the whole obsessive atmosphere.

Title track ‘The Two Sisters’ pleases with its striking rhythm and somewhat ethnic echoes. The next composition is not so impressive however it definitely has its moments and is just great to get ready for the vigorous and invigorating ‘iEnemy’. It’s replaced by the equally powerful ‘The Screen Becomes a Blur’, where heavy guitars and solid drums contrast with laid-back vocals and all these features are even more evident for the following song that is mainly an aggressive but well-balanced mixture. ‘Queen of the Old Ways’ begins with a monologue which seems to last till the end of the composition, but in the middle of it the music comes out of nowhere, gaining strength and gently disappears flowing into the final track that produces a slight impression of grief.

The lyrics are also full of symbolism, very meaningful and obviously deserve a special attention. In general, the album is a conceptual piece of music and will interest fans of the style and all lovers of qualitative music.
