Jozef van Wissem

At the end of first spring month, the Dutch master of lute, JOZEF VAN WISSEM, will visit Poland for two concerts. One of them will take place in the small and intimate Piękny Pies (Nice Dog) in the heart of Cracow's art quarter Kazimierz.

The Dutch minimalist composer is well-known for his collaboration works with Jim Jarmusch (‘Concerning the Entrance into Eternity’, ‘The Mystery of Heaven’, ‘Apokatastasis’) and his music for the vampire-story ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’. With this solid and heart-touching masterpiece he has won Cannes Soundtrack Award on Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Also van Wissem is famous for his soundtrack to the video-game ‘The Sims Medieval’ and music accompaniment for Hans Holbein's painting ‘The Ambassadors’ (double portrait of French ambassador Jean de Dinteville with anamorphic human skull on foreground). The music of van Wissem persistently reminds of the analog era, of pure and hypnotic sound.

During his short Polish tour we can fall into the smart and awestruck music universe of Jozef van Wissem and agree with his saying: “And the lute goes against all technology and against all computers and against all the shit you don't need”.
