JAY-MU-CO Festival: Angelspit, Bespa Kumamero, Aural Vampire, Calmando Qual, The Candy Spooky Theater

Jay-Mu-Co 2007: an invasion of Japan’s finest music. Gothic, electro, synthpop and rock meet each other in Berlin’s Columbia Club, and will prove that there is more to Japanese music than Visual Kei boy bands! But that is not all. The first 500 ticket-buyers will be presented with an exclusive Jay-Mu-Co DVD, fashion designers Takuya Angel and Akiko will present a fashion show, and the event will end with a special auction of instruments and stage-outfits in favour of a child help charity. And, for once, taking photos with digital cams is officially allowed at this event!

Angelspit
Changeably on and off the line-up for the Jay-Mu-Co festival, it now seems that ANGELSPIT will be playing the festival after all. ANGELSPIT is a highly creative duo that combines industrial, noise, electro, and whatever else they can find with a healthy dose of psychosis embedded in medical fetishism. If that sounds crazy, or weird, or unclear; that might be right. Go and see for yourself. ANGELSPIT simply ROCKS. http://www.angelspit.net/

Bespa Kumamero
BESPA KUMAMERO combine Japanese traditional music with modern sounds of electro / technopop. Founded in March 2001, they present a futuristic image that is unique even to Japan. On stage this idea is performed in Budo-Dance, acrobatics, and swordplay. This exciting mix of traditional and futuristic elements cannot but surprise. http://www.myspace.com/bespakumamero

Aural Vampire
If anything, these Jay-Mu-Co bands so far have one thing in common: strange mixes and combinations in musical as well as visual elements. And so it is with AURAL VAMPIRE. The beautiful diva Exo Chica enchants her audience with her precious voice and cute comments, whereas Raveman shows off his B-Movie slasher skills during each gig. The ultimate mix of utter cuteness and B-horror of Aural Vampire is electronic and very, very danceable - recent successful gigs in Helsinki, Berlin and Utrecht showed that AURAL VAMPIRE is ready to infect the world. Aurally! http://www.myspace.com/auralvampire

Calmando Qual
CALMANDO QUAL is back in Germany! The internationally famous band has toured Europe successfully last year, including a highly successful gig at the important Orkus Open Air festival. Since January 2007, they have changed their name in Japan to Twisted Clock, whereas they will keep on using their original name in the rest of the world. The heavy rock music of CALMANDO QUAL sounds, in the words of singer Hibiki himself  “like the sound of a scalpel that cuts into a skull”. You have been warned. http://www.myspace.com/calmandoqual / http://twistedclock.hustle.ne.jp

The Candy Spooky Theater
Those who read the Orkus Magazine (for those who haven’t noticed: Europe’s Goth magazine) have already gotten a taste of the highly theatrical visual group that combines death-rock with lullabies and playfulness with Halloween-horror, and humour with Goth themes. A live show of the CST is a one-of-a-kind experience that could easily have been invented by Tim Burton himself. Yet, this work is all original CST; they have collected a fair amount of freaky, spooky props and decorations and use them in their demented, fragmented, tongue-in-cheek horroresque theatrics while playing their unconventional songs. This band also knows exactly how to summarize their music tantalizingly: “Your mom being stabbed to death in your closet as you sleep”. Can’t wait! http://www.myspace.com/candyspookytheatermurder

In short, the Jay-Mu-Co festival presents a mix of big and small bands that are all equally exciting. For the J-Rock fans a must, and for the uninitiated an excellent chance to meet Japan’s finest!
