Over six years ago the band members met somewhere in Austria and decided henceforth to enrich the world with their music and lyrics and earned a reputation of being a unique and real band that made its first and successful step into the public with their debut album ‘Ende:Gut’. The second album, ‘Die bessere Hälfte’, though it’s available already (Through Austria I guess) has no official German release date yet. The band’s MySpace blog says that it will be in stores some time in July.
‘Um dein Leben’ is the name of the first track and it shines already from the beginning with poppy guitar riffs and precise, crunchy drums but most of all with the diversified vocals of singer Anna Müller. One of the songs I recently saw them performing live and definitive a crowd pleaser predestined to jump along to. The title track takes it a little easier and displays calmer instrumental work and keys on top of the drums and the lyrics feed the heart. With ‘Wenn ich nur wüsste wie’ there’s a poignant rock ballad to follow before ‘Herz Lauf!’ goes back into more driving tempos and carries you off with its racing heartbeat drums, the anthemic synth melodies and the not all too complex, melodic riffs. I know we just had a ballad a few tracks before but ‘Klar’ just is one track that needs to be mentioned as it’s just beautiful and touching music where the guitars for once are not as dominant as on other songs on this record. Actually I could go on like this until the album ends as it’s always switching between calmer and more rocking moments to keep up diversity.
In conclusion you can say that HERBSTROCK with ‘Die bessere Hälfte’ have put out nice, if extremely mainstream-ish record. That is not o say that you shouldn’t give it a chance though. You might discover a new favourite band for yourself but you should be capable of understanding German.
