Album Review

With the material on their ‘On The Road’ disc, released last year in June, the Russian band THE FORCED OSCILLATIONS already turned some heads and now will supposedly put even more people under their spell with ‘Le Monuments De Tristesse’ which starts with the instrumental ‘Arctic Bloodred Moonshine Sadness’ that is sending out fog-like synth drifts into your homes making for an oppressing atmosphere alongside saddened guitar and bass lines. ‘Everyday’ brings in rhythmic sensation buried under a gritty coat of effects that is sometimes akin to a folkloristic dance accentuation. Quite an experimental approach to make! ‘Yahoo’ makes a turn into atmospherically more sunny regions even though you’ll find that the lyrics aren’t quite as bright as that.

‘Ice’, the title is the embodiment of what the music hidden behind it delivers. Arctic and sinister ambience that is generated through the ominous bass and guitar melodies played in combination with the synth winds wafting through it. The vocals aren’t understandable and only the echo of their sound arrives in your ears. ‘Tripple Begger’ equipped with electronic rhythm and distorted noises backing a supposedly Russian vocal delivery leaves a quirky feeling as it’s in some way weird and fascinating at the same time. ‘Northern Lights’ closes the EP with a short but dense guitar outro fading into eternity after hardly a minute. Once again an intriguing sound document from the Russian band that should be getting them some more fans this time around. It’s about time for a full-length.
