LAIBACH is celebrating a significant anniversary this year: It has been 37 years since they released their ground-breaking album ‘Opus Dei’ on Mute Records. In 1987, this album catapulted the emerging band into the global spotlight and established their unique and provocative style.
With a hard, uncompromising sound that was both familiar and ground-breaking, LAIBACH shocked the 1980s music scene with their concept of “retroavantgarde”. The band transformed hits from QUEEN and OPUS into a brutalist interpretation that laid the foundation for the emerging EBM genre, while simultaneously providing a nostalgic look back. Nearly 40 years later, LAIBACH remains a fascinating phenomenon, recognized for their politically charged multimedia art and esteemed for their high artistic value. In a time of global political change, the re-release of ‘Opus Dei’ is especially timely, underscoring the band’s ongoing influence. The remastered re-release of ‘Opus Dei’ will be available on May 10, 2024, in both digital and physical formats.
