Album Review

8 Years ago, a band with the everyday’s name KIND IM MAGEN? came to life. Shortly thereafter they release their first EP ‘Dein Leben Leben’ followed by the debut album ‘Die Kinder vom Bahnhof Soho’. Their third strike on mankind ‘Allez! Allez! Allez!’ was a long time in the making and is going to be released tomorrow.

For me, their third album also has been the debut encounter with the musical works of KIM?. It’s been a positive one, that’s what I can tell you right away. Their music unleashes a furious blast of energy upon listener starting with the album’s opener ‘Allez!’ that appears like a musical battle cry to me build up on fast drumming and fine riff work atop. But all would be nothing without the pugnacious vocal style of singer Trip Tom that has the power of not giving in to anything no matter what it will be. ‘Nein!Nein!Nein!’ really gears up and is even more committed to speed than its predecessor was and the mix of riffs and pounding drums is made to give you a fair kick in the butt. But even a slight shimmer of melancholy comes through now and then in the arrangements. Just listen to ‘Meine Antwort’ attentively, whereas, if I think about it, its disappointment rather than melancholy, which matches the lyrics of the song perfectly. The album closer ‘Zusammen sind wir weniger allein’, however, is definitely melancholic and quite a serene affair with only guitar and bass chords as orchestration. It’s the closest thing to a ballad on the album and a nice and highly emotional finisher.

I already told you above about my first encounter with KIM? being a very positive one. It’s music to party but also to think about. KIM? actually have something to say; a message and that’s more than other bands could say about themselves.
