EP Review

Are you ready to reveal yourself? Well, doesn’t matter, because the new EP of PSIONIC, ‘Self Revelation’, is already there. The motto of the band sounds like: “Against a world, in which the individual does not count - against a world, in which nothing and nobody stands together”. So except for the original version of the title track and two more tracks by PSIONIC, there are remixes from friendly acts like NACHTMAHR, FREAKANGEL and SHIV-R. And now let’s listen to it in order. The title track is an uncompromising song, with a catchy danceable melody and aggressive lyrics. Nice melodic Synths accompany distorted vocals, and in spite of typical industrial beat the combination sounds fresh and light. It is easy to imagine this track playing in clubs and making people dance. Remixes on this album characterize the acts, who made it, very good. First of all those are high quality works, which each artist is famous for. Secondly each interpreter managed it to bring his individuality without changing the meaning and general mood of the song.

NACHTMAHR’s interpretation sounds rough, dry and mostly emotionless. Accurate and clean beats make the track kind of march. Vocals take the first place no more, and harmonically fit into a melody and become just another element of this. The next remix called ‘club remix’ is actually unnecessary. The original is clubby enough and it is already good to dance. The club remix sounds a bit more primitive with power beats. FREAKANGEL made the track sound deeper and harsher. Vocals became a noise and it is almost impossible to hear some separate words, just like Dmitry likes it. In this massive noisy flow there are shining moments, which make the track quite interesting. Remix by SHIV-R you would recognize with the first notes. He spins his beautiful lace web from the very beginning. More over, he made the track sound 30 seconds more. Tempo changes all the time, what makes you listen to the track carefully, longing for another tricks. The main melodic line buzzes like grasshoppers near the rushy quite lake.

After all the interpretations there is a track from PSIONIC’s debut album ‘Acolyte: Psi - 001’ called ‘This is what we are’. The song reflects the motto of the band and is a good representation of their music for those, who didn’t hear the album. In conclusion there is an instrumental version of the song ‘Pilgrimage’, which seems not to be released yet.
