Review Flash

The hard rock band KYNG came together in 2008 to introduce their 70`s rock and roll sound. Coming from Los Angeles, the trio around Eddie Veliz (guitars/ vocals), Tony Castaneda (bass), and Pepe Clarke (drums) cleverly merge the heaviness of bands like BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN with the pop-leaning rock sound of FOO FIGHTERS and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, playing a catchy mixture of old and new that sits between hard and stoner rock. The band's debut album, Trampled Sun, appeared in 2011 on RealiD Records. KYNG`s second album ‘Burn the Serum’ is to be released on May 5th. So far listening to these guys aren’t half bad, but I must agree with those who criticize Eddie Veliz voice, the guy has got talent but he should avoid singing half a song in the upper range because it`s getting old very fast with his kind of voice (his voice sounds kind of whiningly if used in the upper range too much). That put aside the music itself is a pleasant experience (I am a sucker for retro rock) the guitars sound heavy and rich and the drumming is a solid foundation for the bands rhythm.

Conclusion: If you like retro acts you might like KYNG, Veliz’ voice is a matter of taste but not my cup of tea. I like the record nevertheless but have to admit that Veliz reminds of OFFSPRING`s Dexter Holland and some song structures are an obvious homage to the FOO FIGHTERS.
