THE TRANSISTERS have been founded in 2005 by 4 Italian guys, who spent the first years after the inception mostly with touring, but they also found some time to record two EPs, released in July 2005 and September 2007; and supported acts like KAISER CHIEFS, THE RAVEONTTES, WHITE ROSE MOVEMENT, X-WIFE, DISCO DRIVE etc . Now they’re presenting their debut ‘Under Control’
The band names groups such as JOY DIVISION, THE FALL and even Elvis as their influences, but as far as I can hear that right now, that influence is limited to an absolute minimum. I mean it’s rocking, no doubt about that, but the dark overtones in the music of that four-piece speak for a bigger influence of JOY DIVISION and for the other part, the Post Punk. Especially in ‘Everything will be alright’ those gloomy bits come to the fore and flood the composition and in ‘JB is Dead’, a rather pushing song that has more of a punk rock tune, the lyrics show a certain melancholy, bordering on the depressive, saying “I don’t wanna be alright, I don’t wanna feel ok” just like the protagonist would suffer from a disorder and only feels good if he’s not alright, if that makes any sense. Despite their good production the songs still have kind of a garage attitude. A little like a jam that was recorded. All the songs were assembled very compact and most of them barely cross the three minute mark. The advantage is they don’t bore you to death after a certain time. The singer’s vocals always have some effects on them for instance in ‘Walking on a Blackhole’ where the vocals are given a quite obtrusive distortion. Some of the songs also applied some effects on the drums which can be heard best in the intro of the last song ‘Ultraviolet on you’ which is coming up with a nice drum solo by the way.
Fans of the above mentioned bands definitely should try out this Italian band but also people who just like varied rocking tunes performed with verve…
