TOURDEFORCE was founded in Northern Italy in 2004. It is more of a collective than it is a band. Musicians with different musical backgrounds contribute to TDF and all threads eventually come together in the hands of Christian Ryder. That way, they released two albums in 2007 and 2009, contributed to compilations and even opened for CLIENT when they were playing in Milan. 'Colours in Life' is their latest collaborative achievement.
'I Am The Phoenix' soars right up into a golden sky with a marked sense of harmonic melodies and a subdued indie influence. 'Modern Affair' evidently has more experimentalism in it than the previous track, thus becoming a nice aural trip even for ambitious listeners. 'Grey Is Not Enough' dips its branches deep into saddened washes o f ambience. Contributing piano and weeping violin in the back reinforce this feeling firmly. Also the 80s theme that is a key element of the collective's music is more evident in this one for me. Nice tune to dreaming yourself away if you were having a sad day and just can't stand anything resembling happy. I can't help it but if 'Dancing Days' is akin to anything its Italo pop with a melancholic attitude. 'Psychoanalysis for the Masses' indulges deeply within its expansive builds. A dreamscape is a quite fitting term for that! The title track marks the end point of the album. It remains in a contemplative state , the listener finds themselves immersed in as well. Yet the spark doesn't spring over exactly here and leaves you with mixed feelings after the end.
'Colours in Life' is a nice album to pass time easily and in an entertaining way, but it's not more and luckily doesn't claim to be, so get yourself some teasers and hear if it's something for you.
