Do you want to know what it’s like, when you’re a Canadian Industrial band? It’s when Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND) produces your debut album, Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, CONJURE ONE) makes a remix for your first hit, Anthony Valcic, the producer of SKINNY PUPPY, mixes one of your tracks, and finally Chris Peterson (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY) becomes a full-time band member. That’s what happened to the band UNIT:187 in almost ten years of their existence, well aside their four studio albums. Two years after the release of the current album ‘Out for Blood’ the band releases a remix album ‘Transfusion’. But among the remixes there is one new track ‘Blood for Blood’. The song starts with cello and then grows into a dark industrial composition. It is a bit too monotony and quiet for a 4-minutes-long track, but still atmospheric to feel insecure and alarm. What could be a description of UNIT:187 style in general.
For the remixes the band chose just several tracks from the album ‘Out for Blood’: ‘Sick Obsession’, ‘Kurva’, ‘Living to Die’, there are four versions of both ‘Rolling Vengeance’ and ‘Threatend’, and two for ‘DDD’. The general tendency of remixes is to make the originals louder, multilayer, and add more special effects. The remixers tried to blow off the dark dust of the songs of UNIT:187, to make them lighter and brighter. New versions are thorny and bold. The vocals, which are originally a very important part of the whole composition, in remixes are lost behind the effects. All in all even if these remixes aren’t as unique, as the originals, but still interesting as a new vision and a cool industrial album, even if there isn’t a big diversity in titles.
