Review Flash

Fresh from the underground come Liverpool’s MIDNIGHT PROPHECY. Formed in 2015 and devoted to the Metal legends of the 80s, this fresh outfit raises Heavy Metal hell like their role models. The band already supported the likes of ANVIL, SATAN’S EMPIRE & also chose to support DIAMOND HEAD & Phil Rudd of AC/DC. The press text says this young blooded hell-raisers are already building a massive following; I don’t know about that but listening to this hell of a debut I can simply not imagine otherwise. The guitar section consisting of Danny Quayle and Christopher Dixon know their craft, the underlying rhythm provided by bassist Peter Mansfield and Drummer Sam Caldwell is undergirding the already strong compositions in a heavy and brilliant way and without Craig Cairns’ vocals this would not be as excellent as it is (still fucking nice but not the same).

As you all know I’m a sucker for great vocals and the vocals of MIDNIGHT PROPHECY really push my buttons the way I like it. MIDNIGHT PROPHECY’s Facebook site states that their influences are IRON MAIDEN, HELLOWEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, METALLICA, MOTORHEAD, SAXON, DIO/ RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH. I think the heaviest influences are indeed JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN because I detect their scent marks in the guitar work and the phrasing of Cairns’ lyrics. A thing I can hear is as in my ARCANE TYRANT review recently: the vocals do not always follow the melody provided by the guitars, but hey if you listen to the first Belladonna outputs of ANTHRAX you know he did the same thing. I for one really think these guys have a great future in the metal scene if they keep it up like this.

Conclusion: Support MIDNIGHT PROPHECY, buy their stuff
