Album Review

CELESTIAL DECAY is a symphonic, melodic metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was formed in 2008 by Hobbe Houshmand (lead guitars) and Henrik Hedman (drums). Hobbe and Henrik started composing melodic, epic, symphonic and progressive songs, which later marked the foundation of CELESTIAL DECAY's musical guidelines. The planning-, composing- and writing process was initiated in summer 2008. In late 2008, they joined forces with Angelo Mayer (vocals), Robert Bjärmyr (guitars), Lokke Olsson (keyboards) and later on Mattias Ryderman (bass).

‘Contradictum’ is an impressive debut album, it’s filled with melodic and powerful songs that kind of takes you by the hand (or ear) and leads you on an interesting music adventure. I find this album interesting and complex with instrumental parts where you can simply enjoy the good sounding music, it also has some kind of intro to some of the songs where you hear a female voice recite in a poetic sounding way and this creates something more... it brings more feeling to it all. Below follows some of the songs that really got caught my attention on the album.

‘Child of the Night’ begins with interesting and cool strings that I enjoy hearing again towards the end of the song. While listening to this one I get the feeling of moving forward by the way the song moves on. I like the way Angelo Mayer sings, it really fits well together with the melodic music. ‘No Need for a Hero’ is a slow and so very beautiful song that makes me just close my eyes and simply enjoy the brilliant combination of male and female vocals that brings so much feeling to this song. Strong lyrics and chorus together with a lovely melody creates a special song that I find myself returning to while listening through this album.

‘Reapers Goodbye’ has a darker sound / feeling, and different and good vocals, this song captured my interest from the first time I heard it and it quickly became a favourite - the beauty of the melody and the mesmerizing chorus had me hitting repeat - good thing that this song is a 7 minutes song! I really like the way the flowing music and the strong lyrics tell the story and it feels like this song has many different elements that are fit together perfectly like a puzzle. ‘Final Night: The Beginning...’ has a war sounding intro then the song opens up and it’s such a slow and beautiful song, I like the guitar and bass in this one, melodic voice carries the song and I really like it together with the music. Female voice can be heard in the chorus like a shadow to the male one, like the strings that comes towards the end,
