Hamburg based formation EYES SHUT TIGHT plays rather qualitative industrial rock in which one can notice little influence of such bands as MARILYN MANSON or NINE INCH NAILS. This year, the project released the debut album entitled ‘Secret Destroyer’ and I must say the CD turned out to be mere good. The elements of industrial are not too obtrusive so they mostly reveal in various musical and vocal arrangements, dry and rigid riffs, neat synthetic inclusions and extremely emotional delivery of the songs. All these features can single EYES SHUT TIGHT out of the other bands of the kind. Without doubt the debut album is always a decisive, determinative step for the further development of a formation and in this case it’s obvious that the musicians have found their own niche. However the comparisons are still possible but I hope in future the band will increase the bounds of the original sound and find new ways of music expressiveness.
So the album total length of which is about 40 minutes contains 13 interesting compositions that may suit the taste of all lovers of the style but I want to mark out the title-track. With its atmosphere, tempo, arrangements the song differs a lot from the rest of the material on the CD and it seems to be a very clever trick: diversity of the sound is usually a plus. Besides when you are getting tired of crazy rhythm of the tracks and their intensive drive it’s really pleasant to switch over to something slower, deeper and more thought-provoking. What is also great about this debut work is that to the end of the album the keyboards became brighter as it can be noticed in ‘Childlike Face’. In whole ‘Secret Destroyer’ will be appreciated as well by fans of heavy music and it’s better to listen to it when you are in low spirits because the thing will become a perfect soundtrack and will help to take the strain off.
