German CIRCLE OF SILENCE was founded in 2005, they’ve released a demo and played many festivals and gigs, gathered fan base and broke into radio with some of their singles. Now they’re here with an album entitled as ‘The Blackened Halo’. Having previously played melodic metal they’ve took on a new singer and direction and broadened their horizon into power metal, though melodic it of course still remains. Speed and the triumphal feeling are not as stressed as it is with other bands, and they lean many times back to the traditional heavy metal as well, as in for example the second half of ‘Never Forget’ which is one of my favourite songs here, though it does start with the speedy intro and then settles into the story of the song.
There’s plenty of space for head banging here, memorable melody, good lyrics, strong and solid song. Weirdly the angsty refrain reminds me of LINKIN PARK, this impression is so remote that I’d not be surprised by many disagreements on that point, I’m simply sharing my thoughts on it. I love the soft intro of the next song ‘Reflections’ that soon turns into the hard sound. Another and probably the biggest of highlights was the second track ‘Left To Die’, mostly due to the Veldman’s vocal, a great performance and stress that digs itself into the skull as an axe. The song is memorable and excellent with epic elements. A good album, not the best, not great, but good enough.
