Album Review

This is the first album of DUST OF EVERYDAY bearing the same title. The BLACK SABBATH influences of the band are quite obvious but what is even more obvious is that the band cannot settle itself to a style of music. The latter is not as great and cool as it sounds for it gives to the band a mixed approach of the songs and of the themes. They play as if they are confused and insecure, as if they are unable to choose the correct development of their own songs. Surely they can take you by a surprise; there are moments that you could swear the tone should be set higher, harder or differently but instead you listen to some lukewarm alternative rock instead, a rock that is afraid to raise its own voice. It is so mainstream that it yells it wants to be a part of a Coca-Cola advert.

Probably the best moment of the album was the ‘Rock N Roll Moon’ (the advert part that I was talking about) and the worst the next one ‘Walking Away’. Indeed, by starting the song with the sounds of falling water they made me only want to go to the loo. I walked away indeed and I half missed the rest of a truly boring song. Maybe the biggest disappointment of mine was the ‘Requiem’ a song that could make even the Gregorian monks to slap them in their face for the infantilism of their lyrics. When I had finished listening to that album, I remembered when I was young and I used to say “I promise to eat all my food but please don’t make me listen to that band again”!
