Album Review

The TITANS with their debut album, ‘For The Long Gone’, manage to create not only a sense of nostalgia, or a tribute, but also possibly a farewell to the music and the bands that have influenced them the most. Some of the most striking influences here are those of DEPECHE MODE, and ALPHAVILLE, with some hints of AND ONE, and WUMPSCUT to name but few. It’s all the more so since von Hoyel’s voice is able to move along different tempos without losing anything either from its melodic characteristics, or darkness or even coolness.

And though the influences are there the band surpasses with tremendous easiness the classification as retro to the point that makes you wonder why this band didn’t exist already not only because their sound is quintessentially Melodic Electro but mainly because the band has the “it” to establish itself among the very best in the genre. It is hard to pick out the songs that are the most appealing because truth be told the more you listen you’ll find more and more songs to like. Despite that, surely ‘It’s Dark’, ‘Dried Out’, ‘For The Long Gone’, and ‘Apex Predator’ should be counted among the album’s finest moments. The brief collaboration of the band with Claus Larsen (AESTHETIC PERFECTION) offered another Electro gem. As the band traverses the decades in terms of music they also add their own unique voice in their critical adaptation of the past creating thus a highly addictive release that shouldn’t be missed.
