Album Review

Gentle acoustic guitars lead us into the first track 'Vampire' and well balanced vocals appear telling the story emotively with good English lyrics form this Austrian / American group comprising of brother and sister Stephan and Sonja, both on keyboards and vocals, and on guitar pass master Matthias. The metal edge of this track soon makes it's presence felt and the noise becomes dirtier but in a wholly good way. 'Walking on air' is next with hard funky drums and slightly discordant melody. It's a nice track, evocative and catchy with a deep, cold slice of metal right through it that makes it truly interesting.

The electro sounding 'I am you' is pretty reminiscent of early OOMPH! somehow married to Marilyn Manson, a pretty unique sound to be sure. 'Picturesque and beautiful' is a spoken monologue, brief and not altogether tangible unless one has been listening carefully to the preceeding lyrics but soon we're back with the music with 'Blow my mind' a track with a dirty insistent bass line that compliments the vocals well. 'Losing Control' is without doubt the best track on the album and it's easy to understand why this band has such a strong following. Guitar harmonics clang this track 'Reason is nothing' into life, a slow, symphonic sounding offering with a surging, dragging backing that works perfectly with the disembodied vocal. 'Endless desire' is another informative spoken monologue, brave to have two on one album, but it works when married to the whole.

'Artificial love' with its heartbeat rhythm and mournful vocals is a gorgeous track, blisteringly tragic melodies overlaid by incisive lyrics. I love it. More funky keyboards and Electronica follow with 'All Alone' which is a weaker track than the rest being repetitive in comparison to the previously expansive and innovative tracks but it's still solid enough in its own way. 'I am Drama' is a gorgeous slower track, with strings screaming a sad melody and a vocal line that lives up to the title of the song, huge and uninhibited. It's a solid album showcasing this band's diversity and ability, and is so diverse that it has to be said there's probably something for everyone in there.
