Album Review

This isn’t one of those releases where you can sit and ponder the finer points of the songwriting, the intricate guitar work or careful production. CLOCKWORK ERA aren’t that sort of band. While the bands they cite as references include Theoretical Girls, The Jesus Lizard and Sonic Youth, aligning themselves with the likes of Teenage Jesus,  Circle Jerks and Royal Trux, what CLOCKWORK ERA give us on the ‘Fear Inside’ EP are four blasts of unpretentious, no-messing, old-school punk rock. Guitars, drums and bass all go hell for leather, thrashing out four chord riffs topped off with vocals that make no concession to singing or any approximation of melody. Instead, vocalist Jason snarls, sneers and spews out an endless stream of antagonism and nihilism – and it’s great. THIS is the spirit of punk. Raw, energetic, urgent, angry, Clockwork Era are the real deal.
