Album Review

THE MOBILE HOMES is a Swedish group that was formed back in 1984 by Andreas Brun, Patrik Brun, Hans Erkendal and Per Liliefeldt. Since the start a lot of things have happened, but now they are here with their brand new album ‘Today Is Your Lucky Day’ and later on in the beginning of July they are playing on this year’s Arvika festival.

‘This Is Your Lucky Day’ sounds very much like synth-pop from the 80´s but of course THE MOBILE HOMES also added their own style into this and the music sounds really good in my ears. The record starts with the song ‘I Give You’ and it is a good introduction to what is to come. The second song is the brilliant ‘Ill’ it has great sound as well as chorus. ‘I´m Phoning a Friend, And He Says That’ is a strong song and I enjoy the way Hans Erkendal sings on it.

One of my favourite songs is ‘All I Need Is Everything’; I like the lyrics, the way it is built, and how the melody in the song flows. ‘Dance on Your Grave’ is a great reminder of how cool this kind of music can be like when done this well! The last song on the record is ‘Close’ it works well as a first single from the record.

When I am listening to ‘This Is Your Lucky Day’ it feels like I am back in the 80´s again! *smiles* It soothes my ears to listen to this kind of music that to me has more meaning with its synth-pop sound, and really good and strong lyrics. This dark melancholy fits me like a glove in the middle of the Swedish spring when it´s like the nature has taken a great breath before releasing all the green leaves and begins the spring season. This record grows the more you listen to it and for me it is impossible not to think of Depeche Mode in their earlier years and well getting compared to DM is never wrong!
