Epica, Delain
I was really anxious to see the CD-presentation of Epica. Although the new cd ‘The Divine Conspiracy’ hadn’t been released yet, Epica presented it to the audience for a fully sold out venue.
Delain
Delain was formed by Martijn Westerholt (ex-Within Temptation) and recorded an album with a lot of famous metal musicians from Within Temptation, Nightwish, Epica, Leaves’ Eyes and more. Together with singer Charlotte Wessels they formed a live band to perform their 2006 debut album Lucidity.
Music
As enthusiastic as the audience in a sold out venue in Eindhoven was, as enthusiastic presented Delain another set list of songs from their album ‘Silent Lucidity; Shattered', 'Frozen', 'See Me In Shadow' and 'The Gathering' were played for the audience. The sound wasn’t that good in the beginning of the set. The guitar and bass sound were often not to be heard and also the drums could have sounded better. Also Charlotte’s voice didn’t seem to have been given a good warming up for she struggled a bit with the higher parts of some songs. Long the set it got better, same for the sound. Charlotte added more variety to her voice, which shows again that she is really a talented singer. During a ‘Day for Ghosts’ she battled with Ronald (guitars) and of course won.
Performance
Opening as a special guest for Epica must make a band extremely enthusiastic. This was also the case with Delain. The band jumped around onstage, interacting with each other, making jokes and gave extra attention to the audience. The lighting during the show was unfortunately not that good. Rob (bass) and Ronald (guitars) were often in the dark and Charlotte was extremely lit sometimes. During the ballads there was not enough light, so that the ambiance was not what is could have been.

Epica
After The Phantom Agony, Consign To Oblivion and The Score, Epica recently released their fourth album: The Divine Conspiracy. Press and fans are enthusiastic about the new album, and their live performances seem to be even better.
Music
Epica decided to present their new album ‘The Divine Conspiracy’ before it was released. The press had already received some promos and the reaction to the album had been positive all over. Epica started off with the new intro ‘Indigo’ which sets the ambiance for a great evening right away. Followed by a heavy one ‘The obsessive Devotion’ the rest of the album was played. Epica had already released a single from their new album which is called ‘Never Enough’. The audience sang along with the song for it was already known. During ‘Death of A Dream’ the grunts, on the album sung by Sander Gommans of After Forever, were being sung by Tijs Vanneste, singer of the band Oceans of Sadness. When the whole album was being played, the audience got another encore of ‘Cry for the Moon’ and ‘Consign to Oblivion’
Performance
I must say that the show really has been a great spectacle. Fireworks, fire and a nice looking backdrop the show was definitely worthy to look at. The band was also extremely in the mood to play. Mark (guitar) and Coen (keyboards) were often to be found together and Yves showed his looks to the audience which was greatly appreciated by the feminine part of the audience. Where Mark, Coen and Yves go wild, Ad (guitars) brings the peace. Also Simone gave her best during this evening. She sang really well and with her whole heart. At the end of the first set Mark showed himself back on stage with WWF; he raised money with a benefit tour ‘Raise for the Jaguar’ and € 3850,- had been collected for the great cause.
I must say that the evening was a big success!
