EYES FRONT NORTH hail from France, founded only last year by Lionel Forest, Nicolas Simon and Victor Tuhran, who were joined on drums by Fabrice Berger, however, the drum parts on the EP are performed by Conny Pettersson (ANATA). It has suitably dark lyrics evoking a thick atmosphere together with the heavy music right from the start in ‘A Reaching Hand’. ‘Words’ turn well to suit the theme with the half scream, half recited vocal that in the first one had more of Black to Doom Metal sensibilities, now it reminds me of ‘RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. The song also makes way to distinguish each guitar in turn and along the doom- full atmosphere more pronounced anger.
‘Worn As Mask’ is another intense song, vocals slipping for short moments into cleaner ones, the guitars building a furiously dense soundscape around them. Theirs is a hybrid of styles from the Black and Doom Metal, Hardcore and Post-rock, a tricky feat as it doesn’t always come off well. In their case, it does and as time will go this fusion has a promise of getting even tighter. Being a new band one hopes that they won’t get lost in the myriad of bands out there, that in the difficult times they’ll manage to get a good deal, they certainly deserve it. The single shows good potential and is richly enjoyable. For more or less self-produced release its production isn’t bad either.
