Beltane - Through Darker Seasons

BELTANE is a black metal band from New Zealand that Xanataph started back in 1993, since the start the band (like many other bands) has changed some, the current line-up is Xanataph and his fiancé Baphgirl. The music is dark, gothic with a rough edge and strong atmospheres.

‘Sentinel of Death’ is the first song on the record and it is a powerful and dark song. The second song ‘Call the Ships to Port’ it is a cover by Swedish band COVENANT and BELTANE’s version of the song is cool and special. ‘Winter Forest’ is one of my favourites on the record, it is different and I like how Aradia’s light voice and the flute that joins in the middle of the song.

‘Through Darker Seasons’ is an interesting album with dark, beautiful melodies and powerful vocals with Xanataph’s dark, strong voice and the female light and beautiful voice. BELTANE seems to be a band that walks its own way and has their own special sound. I think we will hear more from them in the future - currently they are working on their next album and I am curious about how it will turn out.
