Moshpit 2010 - Crack O Dawn

I’m a little late with my review but I hope you are clement with me and you can trust in my memory decline. In addition I hope the upcoming show dates will disarm you… The BERLIN MOSHPIT at the K17 is a monthly date for metal fans. The K17 provided the possibility for newcomer bands to perform for a bigger audience, in that case for BALCANIUM, I CAN’T SWIM, KULTASIIPI and CRACK O DAWN. Some information about the bands you can find at our preview. Today I would like to write about one of these bands which impressed me the most: CRACK O DAWN from Berlin.

Zoltán (vocals), Halid (bass), Ricky (guitar) and Schulle (drums) founded the band in 2007. They all did already make their way in different rock bands before. The fusion of such different styles is CRACK O DAWN, something between anger, franticness and mania. The main reason and the “crack of dawn” for their decision to be a band was the gig of SLIPKNOT in Switzerland. The inspiration of that gig was so fascinating that there was no other way as being a metal band. For vocalizing parts of the song ‘To Die For’, they worked together with Yvonne Ducksworth (from JINGO DE LUNCH, http://www.myspace.com/jingodelunch).

It is a few weeks ago now, that they found their agency www.saol-music.com to bring their debut album „Gods of Insane“ to the people. It will be released on june 11th! If you look at http://www.myspace.com/crackodawn1 you can see the first musicvideo „Third eye“ and their work at the studio. In a couple of weeks you’ll see the second musicvideo of „Gods of Insane“, too. Like everytime at this point I would like to offer you a few dates where you can see CRACK O DAWN live:
22.07.2010 11:00PM, Mystic Bar, Fügen, Zillertal, Austria
23.07.2010 08:00PM, Hog Bar, Golling, Salzburg, Austria

Music & Performance
The hall was well-filled as CRACK O DAWN entered the stage as second band and the show was loud, powerful and (of course) maenadic. The show was cool to look. The music and also the live impression were like the band’s description: A mix of different styles. I caught elements that sound akin like SLIPKOT or METALLICA. The CRACKs gave us hell and not later than the third song the people gave them very loud clapping back. Ricky performed with naked upper part of his body and so he was better off than the others. Not only the sound but the big six-lamp-spotlight on the stage drove us to sweat, too. Zoltan with his leather jacket got definitely the short end of the stick. In another way, drummer Schulle had the short end of the stick: his drum set was from K17 club which wasn’t in best condition.

Sometimes he had to bridge difficult parts where one of the cymbals was to far away from his hand and other parts of the set were loose, too. He did it great and nobody at the audience noticed that. And all in all they were “limelight hogs”!
