Rhys Fulber has not been involved in the creation of the new FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY album due to his own schedule, which by the looks of it included working on the next CONJURE ONE record ‘Exilarch’, planned to be released in this year’s autumn. ‘I Dream in Colour’, which has been released already on 29th June, is the appetizer for the upcoming full-length. Rhys has worked here with Leah Randi again who has a very soft yet sonorous timbre that blends in perfectly with the immersing soundscapes, resting on metal-coloured, relaxed beats. It’s the perfect soundtrack for dreaming yourself away when the world once again reaches out to you with its cold hands. The ‘Vegas Baby Radio Edit’ retains the moods of the original but adds a clubby flavour to the rhythm section.
The ’Vegas Baby Dub Mix’ and ‘Vegas Baby Club Mix’ also are putting their emphasis more on club compatibility, while the latter one features more vocal parts than the former one. Relaxation extraordinaire could be the second name of the ‘Dub Chill Mix’, where the beats are being pushed back further and appear as mere fragments compared to the prevailing melodic builds. The B-side ‘Places That Don’t Exist’ is an almost-instrumental piece first taking time to build, to unfold to you later its core of a piano motif amidst tenderly tripping beats. I said almost instrumental, because there’s indeed some alienated vocal presence in there and something that does resemble Indian chants, probably sampled. The single closes with the full version of the title track. I’m highly curious about the upcoming album since I’ve listened to that little foretaste. Should it be able to keep the promise made with the single, it will be a great autumn!
