Album Review

IRDORATH were formed in 2005 in Austria and soon, their first demo ‘Erwachen’ (Awakening) and a debut record entitled ‘Götterdämmerung’ (Twilight of the Gods) were recorded. After a couple of live performances and changes in line-up, the second album ‘Dekonstrukteur des Fleisches’ (Decomposer of Flesh) was promoted, which granted the band a contract with Massacre Records. In 2012, a re-release of this work will be published.

The title track and opener ‘Dekonstrukteur des Fleisches’ begins with a spoken intro and afterwards turn to an explosive Black/Death Metal mixture, combining fast yet melodic riffs with driving drums and bloodthirsty, harshly-sung vocals. Morbid laughter underlines the lyrics about someone being slaughtered and giving away his entrails. ‘Freitodzwang’ (Force for Suicide) starts off with a keyboard-sounding intro and continues less fast and guitar-dominated song with a remarkable chorus consisting only of the words ‘Frei’ and ‘Tod’ (the constituents of the German euphemism for suicide). ‘Blindheit’ (Blindness) deals with the topic of ignorance and is rather slow (compared to the opener) but still brutal and hateful. The following ‘Unter Flammenden Laternen’ (Under blazing lanterns) in contrast is a fast, Death/Thrash-Metal influenced song and somehow includes werewolves, street lights and sacrificing bodies as a lyrical impression.

Track number five, ‘Stummheit’ (Muteness), calms down the tempo again whilst ‘Fleischgewordener Antigott’ (Antigod become Flesh) appears to be the most remarkable song of ‘Dekonstrukteur des Fleisches’ - a harsh, chaotic song structure with now and then upcoming guitar melodies and a hymn-like, group-chanted chorus (including some dissonant tones). ‘Bald ersäuft die Menschenbrut’ (Soon, the human breed will drown) sets a misanthrope attitude into music, underlined by blasting drums. The following ‘Das Stolze Tier’ (The proud animal) deals with Jesus and his absence and continues in the same harsh manner. ‘Spiegelscherben’ (Shards of a Mirror) and ‘Taubheit’ (Deafness) conclude the album without providing any surprises - IRDORATH play their own symbiosis of Black and Death Metal, inserting small melodies and technical peculiarities, alongside with critical and cynical lyrics. ‘Dekonstrukteur des Fleisches’ is a solid record without any surprises.
