Album Review

It´s been three years, since HELLOWEEN´s last release ‘7 Sinners’ and it´s time to go on with their stunning success on their newest release ‘Straight Out Of Hell’… Of course, HELLOWEEN is a living proof that a prophet has no honour in his own country - lots of metal heads are simply belittling and ridiculing the efforts the band made over the years. So, let´s have a look if this assumption is justified. Starting with the monolithic song ‘Nabataea’ - a song about a kingdom and a political state of the Nabataeans which existed during Classical antiquity that was annexed by the Roman Empire in AD 106 (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabatene) - they definitely hit the bull´s eye! About 7 minutes of epic and pure HELLOWEEN-sound at its best!

Even the following song ‘World Of War’ is a smack right in your face. The vocals are somehow diversified though typical. Whether it´s ‘Far From The Stars’, ‘Straight Out Of Hell’, ‘Burning Sun’ or ‘The Church Breaks Down’ - what you get is 60 minutes of extremely well composed and impulsive heavy metal. A consequent combination of powerful  guitars, seamless fitted synths and pressing beats leads to the conclusion that this release is almost perfect. HELLOWEEN succeed in doing the splits of continuing their ‘Post-Keeper-Works’ and revisiting their “old material” without losing the positive characteristics of “both worlds”.

The only “flaw” is the relatively “mediocre” ballad ‘Hold Me In Your Arms’ that seems not to suit HELLOWEEN as well as the other songs, but definitely is an oeuvre of Andi Deris and might be recognized as a remembrance of PINK CREAM 69, his former band. But that´s just nit-picking just as the artwork of this release is a matter of taste! Looking forward to the upcoming tour, there´s one for sure: Creating a setlist of old hits and the new material must be quite hard! ‘Straight Out Of Hell’ is the name of the game and HELLOWEEN are the gamblers! They´re still “Gamblin´ With The Devil” and Hell yeah, they´ve got it! If there´s any German (or any other) metal head who is still refusing to listen to HELLOWEEN: Shame on you! This release is just awesome! Highly recommended!
