Album Review

MISERATION, a Swedish Death Metal band, was founded in 2006; its members are no strangers from other bands as well (SCAR SYMMETRY to name just one). The time has seen them release two albums prior to their newest one, where they take on the diversity of tragedies, be they caused by nature or humanity, and thus it comes entitled as ‘Tragedy Has Spoken’ and its central meditation focuses on nature of good and evil.

The album reaches to the old school Death Metal with leanings of its more technical sides than the Melodic Death metal that has become the expected sound of what we hear from Scandinavia. The album is also show-casting some of less expected instruments such as mandolin, Indian Harp, a hammered dulcimer, and so on, to enrich it with folk-ish flavour. Regardless of its good performance of skills and the added and interesting elements within its ambience, the great and unrelenting aggression and the appropriately maniacally pounding drums, and regardless of its grand theme, it somehow didn’t manage to grab me enough, to engage me enough beyond enjoying it for a few times of the listening, that it is to say, it’s not an album I’ll keep thinking about and if it was a physical release that I was given, it’d be collecting dust. However, their die-hard fans should be happy enough with it.
