Album Review

MEPHISTOSYSTEM after two albums have returned with ‘Move The Clouds’, a CD that the band pretends to be “away from the norm”. That is so accurate. For starters allow me to say this, even the mentioning of Mephisto by this band is enough to make the bones of Goethe spin in his grave like a ventilator. The band has no imagination whatsoever. Hell, even Klaus Mann would be weeping after having to hear them. The pretentiousness of MEPHISTOSYSTEM exceeds any expectation when they state that they “observe the world with a critical eye”. I’ve read observations like their lyrics in high school essays. Of course all that is underlined by the down-tempo synths offering a caricature of Rodin’s ‘Thinking Man’. In such a case beneath him are not the damned from the Gates Of Hell but a bunch of guys throwing imaginary darts into an invisible dartboard. The whole CD is the utter flatland. Boring and anaemic, to say the least, is interesting as much as a colony of vegan zombies. Sometimes you may hear them groaning like in ‘The Others’ but have no fear. They are heading towards the daisies to cease their appetite.
