Album: Cybershaman
Genre: Paganfolk remixes
Release date: June 2007
Record company: Omnia-Pagenscum records

Introduction

This album is very special for Omnia. For it does not contain new songs but remixes. So not just the traditional paganfolk sounds you are used to but computer beats and sounds are added. It gives you the chance to look at their music (or at least listen to it) in a new way. A refreshing album and a nice break until the next album. Which has arrived this August. The outside of the album looks great as well. Showing pictures of Jenny dancing with a drum, these were made by Steve. The disc itself is black decorated with fragile silver trees and with each album you get a Cybershaman patch, what more do you want?

Song review

01. Dil Gaya – Tribal Remix by “The Fortress” – 6.07
Beats are coming from a far and then the voice of Jenny comes in, as if you are listening to a party in some eastern country. Then you are invited to the party, these beats will make you move for sure. The normal beats enhanced by cyber beats take this music to another dimension. From a pagan feel to a space feel

02. Teutates – Vegan Dance Remix by Transit Poetry – 5.00
This has to be my favourite song of album. Its beats are so danceable and make not only your body but also your heart move. It is a delightful song which brings joy. It starts of with the shouting of ‘Teutatus’ and then the danceable beats take over. The hurdy gurdy keeps the pagan atmosphere in the song.

03. Tine Beltaine – Spiritual Gothart Remix by Transit Poetry – 4.10
This song has very light and jumpy beats. It has a touch of elf to it. The French counting at the beginning only adds to that. The entire songs as a flow to it, from beginning to end without breaks it takes you on a trip.

04. Pagan Polska – Cybershaman Remix by “The Fortress” – 4.00
‘Pagan Polska’ has a more heavy beat to it, a darker sound. The beats seem to have taken over this song more then in the other songs. But not in a negative way. There is a tension in this song, a mystery, almost a threatening danger up ahead.

05. Pagan Polska – Deep Didge Mushroom Remix by “The Fortress” – 4.56
Again ‘Pagan Polska’ is taken over by the beats. Even the didgeridoo sounds are sounding digital. Less of the essence of the original song is kept in this remix. The real refrain, the heart of the songs seems to be lost in this remix, tension is built but the release doesn’t come.

06. Tine Bealtaine – 10.000 Lightyears From Home Remix by Transit Poetry – 6.24
This remix is bit of a darker version of ‘Tine Beltaine’. Like the title of the remix says, it sounds a bit like a trip in to space. Not the earthy sounds of Beltaine but the sound of space. It is a more quiet mix, less festive, dreamier. The beats go on from beginning to end and the extra instruments, voices and sounds keep bringing them to live time after time.

Conclusion

This is a remix album which is definitely worth listening to. It may even attract some new fans. Which is of course always a good thing. It is a great way to show the other qualities of this music and shows a different side of Omnia. A side I hope they will not leave behind after this one remix album. It does not only look good, it sounds good as well.
