Album Review

Ever since their inception back in 1997, ONE FINE DAY from Germany has consistently broadened their scopes, especially getting the machine rolling after reaching the Top 10 bands battling for the John Lennon Talent Award. With ‘The Element Rebellion’ they now have their 6th record in stores since Friday and with mildly ringing chords the album starts with ‘Dare The World’ until it roars out its rebellious attitude with sudden rock bursts. Next up clap your hands for the feet-tapping ‘My Heart Is On Fire’ which I think would’ve been the better choice for an album opener. Calm ‘Against The Gray’ bears psychedelic resemblances, sometimes putting you in mind of PINK FLOYD. Apart from that it’s just a brilliant way of fighting off the clouds, clear your personal sky and coming to see again the approaching lights of a new beginning. ‘Feel Again’ sets itself apart from previous tracks by providing a blend of percussion, organ and laid-back guitar instead of “typical” rock instrumentation. With ‘Heaven And The Sea’, the guys take us down into spherical realms with tender rhythms and lyrics while ‘Best Friend’ surprises with the inclusion of a xylophone.

‘Yesterday’ concludes the album and again it’s rather the calm tones predominating than upbeat rhythmic attacks; bringing back echoes of lost dreams and hopes you once had for your life and that got lost on its streets at some point. ‘The Element Rebellion’ swings between plain and special indie, special indie meaning pushing the boundaries, too many bands sadly have not the urge to. The good mix is what’s going to keep this album from going unnoticed in the flood of releases these days.
