Album Review

NERVOUS NELLIE is a Swedish band that consists of two couple of brothers, Henrik Jonzon (vocals, guitar) & Magnus Johnson (guitars, piano, and vocals) are born in Chicago, homeschooled in the Swedish language after their final move to Sweden. Andy (drums, vocals) & Sebastian Johansson (bass) were born in Falkenberg, Sweden.

‘Why Dawn Is Called Mourning’ found me in the right kind of mood to listen to this kind of music. Some of the songs were easier to take in and then some of them required some time for me to melt the impressions and feelings they brought before I could put it all into words. What I like the most about finding new bands are that they (if you let them) leave an impression and you take some of their songs with you when you leave the album behind. It’s those songs that later make you listen to the whole album.

‘Final Day’ is the first song that I heard with this band and it captured my interest and made me curious of how the rest of this album would turn out to be. The song brings beautiful and moving music with sharp and cool lyrics, delivered with certainty by the singer Henrik Jonzon. The rhythm of ‘Long as Can Be’ instantly had me imagining waltzing around in an old fashioned mirrored ballroom. I adore the way the music simply flows forward from the intro to the end of this moving and beautiful song. The singer Henrik Jonzon has a very good voice and I enjoy listening to the way he tells the story. Interesting to hear everything pause for a moment during the song! It gives me the feeling of everything taking a breath before the song continues on.

‘Meet Me In The Stairs’ is a cool and playful song that makes me smile. I like the rhythm and the easy atmosphere. The catchy chorus with its good sounding melody kind of swept me off my feet and had me liking this song more and more. ‘Be Asleep’ is like a sweet and slow lullaby that I kind of fell in love with from the first time I listened to it. The soothing music and the way Henrik’s voice caress my ears makes me feel so very relaxed and calm. This is a great song to put on when you need to stress out and find you inner calm.
