LPF12 the band, and the personal vision of Sascha Lemon, was founded back in the early 90’s and after some tape releases and a hiatus of 14 years, Sascha returned to it in 2009. And this CD, ‘Guiding principles’, has been released just before his next album, ‘Sense Of Loss’. I think that ‘Clicking The Right Decision’ should be the first song in this album. The song brings to my mind TANGERINE DREAM’s ‘Ricochet’, builds on that and what comes as a pleasant surprise is the tree-like structure of the rest of the CD. On one branch you have the more minimal aspect with ‘Guiding Principles’ and ‘The Kernel’ where the Dark Ambient and the drones offer a sad minimalist insight into the 70’s. This aspect is especially dominant in the last minutes of ‘Guiding Principles’ whilst the soundscape in ‘The Kernel’ rapidly changes and the image that comes to my mind is the one from ‘Event Horizon’ without the cheesy thriller of the movie. In this track the kernel of the spaceship holds its own mystery, a mystery which lingers between something apocalyptic and as strangely as it may sound something familiar as well.
On the other branch you have a more experimental aspect with ‘Unlocking Hidden Doors’ and ‘In A Naked Room’. The former keeps something from the ‘Escape From New York’ especially in terms of vision. ‘In A Naked Room’ looks like the ‘Blade Runner’ after a zombie raid, the deserted leitmotif juxtaposes brilliantly with some more uplifting moments making the track highly interesting to listen to. Actually this last term is also applicable to the whole CD, with its multi-dimensional music which offers a rewarding experience. Sascha Lemon does not limit himself to describe a void world, glorifying the ruins of what-has-been - the carcasses of civilisation - in this CD his vision actually misses and calls for something more enriching.
