Album Review

Without being a Hardcore fan, I really appreciate SCHILLER and I have plenty of his albums already. The problem is, every time I listen to one of his production, I enjoy it instantly, spend a great moment, but 15 minutes after the last song I'm literally unable to remember one song or name one track. But I know that whenever I want to relax myself, listen to beautiful soundscapes, I can pick any of his record. Of course, there's one exception with the splendid hit single from the last album to date, ‘Sonne’, featuring another major German star, UNHEILIG. So sorry in advance if you read any inaccurate stuffs... I'm not a specialist here.

So? What to expect of a Live album of a Synth maestro recorded with a symphonic orchestra? A wonderful trip in SCHILLER's world. And a very nice balance between the Electronic and the Symphonic. On some track, it's the electronic that still keeps the lead (Schiller, Sonne, Ruhe, Sommernacht) and the symphonic serves to emphasize some moments here and there, or bring some changes in the songs, on other, the strings and choirs are at the forefront (Sehnsucht). Overall, the two universes mix together perfectly and brings a cinematographic touch to Schiller's art.

The danger with this kind of exercise is that it can fall easily in a pretentious and useless super production that only serves the ego of the artist (“Look how a great artist I am as my songs can be performed by an orchestra”). In this case, it's obvious the symphonic arrangements are there to emphasize the beauty of the music. Of course, the ‘Sonne’ interpretation with UNHEILIG on vocals is sublimed by the orchestra as well as the one with another super star invited to sing: Midge Ure (ULTRAVOX) on ‘Let It Rise’. Having only seen some extracts on YouTube, I cannot review the visual side of the project, but one thing's for sure, I'm gonna order the DVD right away as I really want to see how this “looks” like.
