Album Review

Somewhere along the way you’ve more than likely heard of MEAT LOAF, if not for his most renowned album trilogy ‘Bat Out of Hell’ then for the song ‘I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)’ that’s been played so much that if you don’t know it you’d have to had been a victim to an alien abduction and kept captive on a planet very far away. The latest offering ‘Hell In A Handbasket’ has few interesting points such as that ‘Our Love And Our Souls’ is a duet with Patti Russo, that there is a cover of ‘California Dreamin’’ (THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS) and that’s where the list ends. Yes, it is a nice (meaning it’s so safe you can have your grandma listening to it without her thinking you’ve sold your soul to Satan and certainly suitable for Sunday school easy listening) set of radio-friendliness as MEAT LOAF’s music has always been. If you think there’s anything modern about it, then you’ve stopped listening to what modern is at least a decade back (and that’s really generous!). It’s great for his hard-core fans and the most stubborn lot of nostalgists, but as for the rest, it’s better to stick on The Rocky Horror Show, even if that’s going back in time it’s at least more entertaining. Thumbs down!
