Album Review

Swedish PROMISE DIVINE have previously played few shows on the Vans Warped Tour and had a small tour in the USA on their own as well. Debut album followed, and now they’re bringing out a single hailed as a new beginning as they’ve undergone some line up changes.

Listening to this self-titled EP, the immediate impression that will remain unchanged throughout is that it’s aimed at today’s teens and young in their early twenties, the clean sterilised punk sound thrown in with pop-ish rock with a hollow soul and tedious lyrics. The vocal is just a carbon copy of all the other vocalists of many other bands producing this kind of music, you just can’t tell them apart as they all sound and interpret the songs exactly the same, and unfortunately it’s not just the vocal that is disappointing, although the guitars and drums are well played but they feel as mechanical as can be, with no surprises, no exceptional skill. The arrangements are the endless grey sea of songs of this genre.

If you’re looking for something diverse, something exciting, something that doesn’t sound worn out but brings a surprise, something unique you just won’t find it here. This is a forgettable single that might appeal to their fans but that’s about it.
