Album Review

The small electro label Aliens Productions hails from Slovakia to bring us electronic music aside from what is usually showcased in this genre by signing uncompromising artists, who are willing to take chances and developed their own sound instead of following a trend. The sampler ‘Hyperreality’ originates from the year 2007 and shows a variety of styles.

We’re gonna start off with the track ‘Industrial Boy’ by OTX meets Kenji Siratori which begins as a sound mash-up with a potpourri of cold industrial as well as haunting deep basses and melody layers to emerge into a strong danceable track. Usually Anhedonia is the inability to gain pleasure from enjoyable experiences, a seriously sad condition, but in this case it’s the name of a project from Prague, bringing us a fine blend of ambient and glitched, percussion sound, but that’s only the first part as the song literally transforms, when harsh and broken beats enter the arena. After the label bosses DISHARMONY give us a taste of their abilities with the manipulation of the track ‘Alone’ of the Australian project EMPTY coming up with razor-sharp beats over which ambient textures have been woven, it’s the track of TABOR RADOSTI, which attracted my attention, combining the monumental force of an orchestra with sub-cooled electronic beats and a voice, distorted beyond all recognition, giving me the creeps.

XABEC’s ‘Open State’ here presented in a Remix from the German project MNEMONIC is taking the listener into other spheres, where majestic string arrangements will welcome him. Another unusual instrument in an electronic track is the trumpet, which I heard for the last time in a track of THE KLINIK. All this is bound by deep beats and nervous sequencer lines. One hand washes the other and so XABEC also did a remix for MNEMONIC. A spherical ambient texture’s hovering above a constantly morphing rhythmical underground, partly melting with the background and then again dominating everything with its unrestrained power. The second-last track ‘Memorandum’ brings a specialty, it’s completely in German. The vocals are performed both processed with a robotic distortion and clean as a cold evil whispering. Melodic elements such as melancholic piano lines and male choirs are being fused with brooding rhythms and elaborate beats. The honour of finishing the compilation belongs to STENDECK with the track ‘The thin light between the trees’ and that track doesn’t have that name without a reason because, when you close your eyes while listening to this song, you can see yourself walking through a forest and when you’re looking up to the sky, then you can see small rays of sunlight, permeating this roof made of leaves.

If you haven’t heard of this label before, but love complex electronic music, then it’s definitely time to take a closer look at this label. All tracks are high-quality productions, covering various styles like ambient, IDM and Industrial, which will please the heart of every fan of good electronic music.
