Queens Of The Stone Age - “The End Is Nero”

For six long years, fans of the world’s dominant contemporary rock band had to wait for new music, but on 16 June the time had finally come: the new, now eighth album by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, ‘In Times New Roman...’ was released! Immediately afterwards, the quintet, which is one of the best that rock music of the new millennium has to offer, set off on an extensive world tour, which will take them to Europe in the autumn - including three shows in Frankfurt, Berlin and Düsseldorf in Germany.

The desert rock legends, founded in 1996 by their charismatic frontman Joshua Homme, present with their new record a downright rock beast with rough edges and without any compromise and thus a return to their original strengths. In the subtext of this radical sound, however, an unmistakable reaction to the current unmistakable reaction to the current music scene, the hype of Autotune, aseptic studio productions and empty lyrics. This is another reason why not only the sound and the mindset behind it, but also the song lyrics are among the rawest and most biting and biting that these rock giants have released so far. Testimony to this is the single ‘Emotion Sickness’, which has already been released. Massive grooves, pushing guitar licks, pounding basses and Joshua Homme’s unique vocals between raw power and an enormous sense of melody mark the career of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.

As Joshua Homme’s successor band to KYUSS, who once founded stoner rock, the QUEENS have been among the most since their third album ‘Songs for the Deaf’ in 2002, the QUEENS have been one of the leading rock bands of the present day. Also, many other albums like ‘Rated R’, ‘Era Vulgaris’ or ‘...Like Clockwork’ are considered young classics of powerful rock music, at the same time, the band established itself as one of the most intense live rock acts on the globe. After the band had recorded new songs on their last album ‘Villains’ in collaboration with the producer Mark Ronson, the band tried out new, sometimes surprisingly poppy songs and sounds. The previously known guests on the upcoming album alone speak to a return to full-blooded a return to the full-blooded guitar rock roller: Besides Joshua Homme’s good friend and FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl, ZZ TOP guitarist Billy Gibbons also revealed that he was part of the recording sessions. Regardless of this great anticipation for another QUEENS album, which will become a young classic after only a few years, one thing above all is rock-solid: when QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE enter a live stage, no t-shirt is left dry. Their shows are far too powerful and overwhelming for that.

They will be accompanied at these shows by two other notable formations: For The first is the Australian trio THE CHATS, who have made a name for themselves with two EPs and two albums so far. Albums, on which they offer a wonderfully powerful mixture of 60s garage punk and 70s new wave punk. Rounding off the London-based post-punk trio DEEP TAN, led by Los Angeles-based singer and model-based singer and model Wafah Dufour. Formed in 2019, the all-female trio has released two EPs so far and is considered one of the most important acts “to watch out” at the moment.
