asp kosmonautilusIn 2019, ASP returns to the narrative cycle ‘Fremder’. They take the journey that started with the top then album ‘fremd’ and was continued with the number two album ‘MaskenHaft’, to a new highlight. The direct sequel of the celebrated third part ‘zutiefst’ is highly emotional, obsessed with details, and very catchy. Each song fascinates with its own fantastic story and is created by ASP mastermind Asp Spreng, who is full of relish. Even when the album comes along with lots of allusions and back references, ‘Kosmonautilus’ creates an energy that is almost contrary to the complexity and profundity of the lyrics. One hit leads to another; they all are Gothic Novel Rock rockets and future live evergreens.

The ‘Fremder’ cycle is now album number four to tell the story of a traveller, who visits different realities and worlds, and it won’t be the end of the odyssey. While the first part ‘fremd’ deals with different facets of that feeling - the feeling of being a stranger, being an outsider, being alone - this emotional power is increased especially at the beginning of ‘MaskenHaft’. The listener now experiences loss of freedom, ultimate isolation, and the destruction of individuality, before the protagonist starts his journey, his wanderings, and enters harsh paths. He then finds himself hanging from a cliff and then falls into the ocean, and this is where ‘zutiefst’ begins. (It’s always there, the love, it is never forgotten in the creative process of ASP.)

Now, the adventures amongst submarines, deep sea monsters, and wrong beacons go on, and the band uses a clever strategy. On first sight, everything seems to be the same, but musical and lyrical details give proof of the courage to be adventuresome. Again, unknown genre borders are crossed on the quiet, insidiously, cautiously, and without being bold. Well-told, musical stories are still in the foreground and it finally emerges, that everything in the ASP universe is connected with each other, although every song works for its own. The connection between the cycles ‘Schmetterling’ and ‘Fremder’ reveals to those, who become part of it. For others, it will be the craftiest and most entertaining album that the dark music genre has to offer. There are tattoos came alive, undead sea gods, and restless ghosts of misled seamen. It’s definitely fun!

Recorded at the Twilight Sound Studio of Lutz Demmler, the album was mixed and mastered by producer legend Vincent Sorg (DIE TOTEN HOSEN, IN EXTREMO). The insanity of the album also reflects the incredible workload and output of the artists: between the last chapter of the story and ‘Kosmonautilus’, only 25 months passed by. Additionally, Asp Spreng produced a concert film with new songs and two storybooks, and there was a sold out tour regarding the 20th anniversary of the band.

ASP remains an unfathomable phenomenon of the German music scene. For years, with blazing passion they tirelessly fight for a permanently growing fan base. They manage to reach high chart positions of the Media Control Charts without smarmy approaches to the mainstream. Long ago, lovers of demanding lyrics and profound rock music realized, that it is impossible to avoid ASP, and that there is no reason to fear “the bogeyman”, at least not too much.

With their new album, ‘Kosmonautilus’, ASP will start the new year with an extended rock tour. The concert journey leads to 15 cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Brand-new songs and popular hits will be performed live on stage in January and February 2020. After the special tour “Zaubererbruder live und extended” in 2018 and the fabulous anniversary shows in 2019, there will be an extended tour now. Neither expense nor effort was spared to get in contact with you as close as possible. 15 (!) concerts, that’s a big thing, for the fans and for ASP.
