There’s a feeling of emergence flowing through this new release by Danish composer / producer / multi-instrumentalist Anders Trentemøller, as though Summer is here but without the garishness, fripperies and over-exuberance. There’s always been something cerebral yet accessible, understated but never lightweight, about his music, and this 14-track album is no exception. The range is quite staggering, from the bass heavy shuffle of ‘Dead Or Alive’ exploding into frantic, dark passages of punky guitar, to the soaring, angelic vocals of ‘No More Kissing In The Rain’ and the classic shoe-gaze pace and ethereal drift of ‘Like A Daydream’. It never stands still, but neither does it push and shove you away into directions that don’t suit, retaining a sense of unity without ever sitting safely in a box.
Conclusion: This is the kind of album that creeps quietly into your consciousness and slowly befriends you, gradually dazzling and soothing with equal ease, making you notice all those facets that initially crouched hidden, patient yet vital.
