Review Flash

DEAD TALKS is a brutal as fuck Death Metal band that hails from Lohja, Finland a place that, according to the filth, grime and utter carnage these dudes unleash on this sharp-edged piece of music, has to be a place that strongly resembles Hel. DEAD TALKS was formed a year prior to “The Plague” in 2019 and ‘Veneration Of The Dead’ marks the band’s full-length debut. Funny enough is that it took the band promo and a few seconds to realize why I definitely know one of the guitarists: one of them is Tomi Joutsen the vocalist for AMORPHIS! So how to best describe the sound of these guys without causing a shitstorm or some other harsh reactions?

DEAD TALKS play Death Metal without a doubt but they are awfully melodic and got a fierce groove to their music that sets them apart from hundreds of other Death Metal bands, don’t get me wrong this is still brutal as the morning after a six-pack of beers a bottle of Scotch and a pack of cigarettes but it’s also really nice (remember the introduction of Negan in The Walking Dead? He smiled while bashing in heads, this is the vibe). On a site-note: aside from Guitarist Jukka Veiksola every member of DEAD TALKS knows each other from playing in CORPSE MOLESTER (and here they say romance is dead…). It is really hard to pick a favourite on this one but I guess ‘Death’s Charioteer’ is a great example of how to play Death Metal and make it sound fresh and atypical. I get massive MINISTRY vibes on this one without any indication of industrial instrumentation, it’s the vibe and the structure itself that reminds me of the chaotic yet melodically driven narratives of Al Jourgensen’s band.

Conclusion: If you love old-school Death Metal that somehow manages to give it an interesting spin without denying its roots you are in for a fucking treat.
