introChristmas in 2015 lies behind us. But to recover the Christmas feeling and save it for some more time we have spoken with musician from different countries about Christmas and what it meant for them. We spoke to Kira (bass) from DNR, Jayce Lewis (music, production, lyrics) from PROTAFIELD and Marcus Engel (guitars, keys, percussions) from RABIA SORDA, PALAST about their Christmas memories and traditions…

First we spoke with Kira (bass) from Italian Band DNR

Reflections of Darkness [RoD]: Do you like this holiday and why?
Kira: Every holiday is a good chance to spend time with people that are important for you, like your family, friends... and so on!

RoD: Did you follow any tradition on the eve of this holiday?
Kira: Unwrap the presents under the tree! Who can resist!

RoD: The Magic of Christmas night - it's true or fiction?
Kira: I want to believe in this magic. When you grow up you risk to lose this sensation that you felt in the past... the magic atmosphere of Xmas, so, I try to keep it alive!

RoD: Your favourite Christmas story / movie?
Kira: A Christmas Carol (Ebenezer Scrooge's story) and Trading Places.

RoD: What is your favourite Christmas character?
Kira: I think the Three Wise Men!! (Referring to the three wise men that came from the East to bow baby Jesus and bring him gifts, celebrated by Christians - author's note).

RoD: Where and how better to celebrate Christmas?
Kira: Of course at home with my family!

kira dnrRoD: Did you believed in Santa Claus in childhood?
Kira: Yes I do! And it should be so for all the child’s in the world! Grow up... it's a mess!! Leave to the children the freedom to fly on the fantasy wings ;-)!
"Neverland! Listen to your heart and forget rules
Neverland up! Because we don't need a credit card to reach for the moon"
*song ‘Neverland’ third track of DREAMFINITY album!

RoD: Have any of your wishes, which you made on Christmas, come true?
Kira: When I was child some of my letters has been read by Santa Claus! and I found what I wished under the tree!

RoD: Has Christmas a religious significance for you or is it a tribute to tradition?
Kira: I grew up in Italy and it has a "religious significance" for sure! The born of Jesus Christ it's something of mystic!

RoD: Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Kira: Everyone has his own reason to celebrate. We are free to choose, for faith or for "consumerism" ... it's up to the place/ nation and to the individual choice.

RoD: If Santa Claus drinks on Christmas Coca-Cola, what dies in this case Russian Father Frost drink?
Kira: Mm maybe alcoholic Vodka? (I said an alcoholic because he has to drive the sledge ... and don't waste the way!)

RoD: How will you celebrate Christmas this year? You will make a snowman or go skiing?
Kira: I don't know if I'll spend this Xmas in LA (no snowman in this case!) with AxiA or in Italy with my family... in any case will be super cool!!!

RoD: What wish you will make on Christmas night?
Kira: Spend time with important people in my life! That it could be my family or my band... or in this case they are both! Xmas it's a chance to stay together, sometimes people don't give enough importance to this... stay together it's still the best gift that someone can give to you! God bless you all and STAY DREAMER!!!

And we are moving on to England and JAYCE LEWIS front man from PROTAFIELD.

RoD: What associations do you have with Christmas?
Jayce: Not much really, I find the whole thing so strange, as it’s a religious celebration, and I’m not religious, so for me it’s just an expensive moment where you give presents to people you won’t see again until next year. It is just a commercial machine now.

RoD: Do you like this holiday and why?
Jayce: Not really, I like a day or two off, but then need to do things, I just can’t do nothing… having a holiday is so alien to me

RoD: Did you follow any tradition on the eve of this holiday?
Jayce: Is getting drunk the tradition? I used to do that well.

RoD: The Magic of Christmas night – is it true or fiction?
Jayce: Fairy tale J

RoD: Your favourite Christmas story/ movie?
Jayce: Marry Poppins

RoD: What is your favourite Christmas Character?
Jayce: I guess Santa… although a fat guy down a chimney? That has got to hurt!

RoD: Where and how better to celebrate Christmas?
Jayce: At home with the family J

laycelewisRoD: Did you believed in Santa Claus in childhood?
Jayce: I did, but always thought something wasn’t right… So, I investigated and discovered it was all a lie! At the age of 10.

RoD: Have any of your wishes, which you made on Christmas, come true?
Jayce: Not really, but have just got off the Stage with FEAR FACTORY for a second time in a week performing Edge Crusher, so I guess… This has topped it for me this year.

RoD: Has Christmas a religious significance for you or is it a tribute to tradition?
Jayce: I just see it as a commercial money pit every year seems to get worse in that way. It’s a strange moment in time I think.

RoD: Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Jayce: Good Question!

RoD: If Santa Claus drinks on Christmas Coca-Cola, what does in this case Russian Father Frost drink?
Jayce: Has to be Vodka!

RoD: How will you celebrate Christmas this year? You will make a snowman or go skiing?
Jayce: Nope, I will be busy recording my new album… I just cannot bare to think having any time away from that.

RoD: What wish you will make on Christmas night?
Jayce: That there is no more Terrorism in the world, which would be wonderful for a lot of people I think. Merry Christmas HUMANS!

And last person which answered our questions is Marcus Engel from Rabia Sorda (Guitars, Keys, Percussions) and PALAST(Keys, Percussions).

RoD: What associations do you have with Christmas?
Marcus: To me Christmas is that time of the year when I meet my family, having some nice food and taking it very easy for a couple of days. Also the pre-Christmas time is very nice with all the lights, Christmas markets and Christmas music, I really celebrate all this stuff.

RoD: Do you like this holiday and why?
Marcus: I love it. That is my favourite time of the year. I think at times like these we all need some love, closeness and quality time with the ones we love and care about and Christmas is the best excuse for taking some time off to have that besides the things that we have to deal with all year.

RoD: Did you follow any tradition on the eve of this holiday?
Marcus: Yes indeed, here in Germany it is the evening you share presents with the ones you love. Most of the time in a cosy living room with my family. And that is how it will be this year as well.

RoD: The Magic of Christmas night - it's true or fiction?
Marcus: Trick question cause you know I’ve not been around that evening so I really cannot say;) but I like the spirit of it and I believe that it must have been a very special night. I’m sure it was.

RoD: Your favourite Christmas story / movie?
Marcus: My favourite and the one I grew up with is ‘A Christmas carol‘ by Charles Dickens and I still love it. Also there is a funny Christmas movie that repeats all year in TV called ‚the national lampoon's Christmas vacation‘ with Chevy Chase. It’s just awesome and I will watch it again this year ;)

RoD: What is your favourite Christmas Character?
Marcus: Santa Claus of course ;)

RoD: Where and how better to celebrate Christmas?
Marcus: I think it’s not a place or country or a tradition, it’s just the people that make it special. So I don’t mind where as long as I have my beloved ones with me.

palastRoD: Did you believed in Santa Claus in childhood?
Marcus: Yes I did, maybe like every German child as well. And every year there was a friend of my parents playing the Santa for me and my sister and we had to sing and sit on his lap. So we really grew up with that story and I will have my children grow up with that as well because it is a really nice tradition.

RoD: Have any of your wishes, which you made on Christmas, come true?
Marcus: Honestly, I’m really blessed with my family and had an awesome childhood so yes my wishes always came true.

RoD: Has Christmas a religious significance for you or is it a tribute to tradition?
Marcus: Me as a catholic educated person, have always been at church as a child and sure since I grew up i see things different and have my own believe and my own view at things but I love the idea of coming together and celebrate Christmas in a community especially if somebody is not blessed with a family or friends like I am. So I think the religious significance is still very important although not for me that much.

RoD: Why we celebrate Christmas?
Marcus: I do, don’t know about the others and if they celebrate and why.

RoD: If Santa Claus drinks on Christmas Coca-Cola, what dies in this case Russian Father Frost drink?
Marcus: I should have thought that is obvious but of course vodka… what else?;) I mean it is a strong winter out there and how to survive without vodka.

RoD: How will you celebrate Christmas this year? You will make a snowman or go skiing?
Marcus: This year is special because I will celebrate it with my girlfriend first time and I’m really looking forward to that. Of course I will be with my family and will hang out with them having nice food and stuff. Unfortunately there will be no white Christmas in Germany this year I guess.

RoD: What wish you will make on Christmas night?
Marcus: My wish is that I can go on living in peace and harmony wherever I might go in the future and that I can celebrate Christmas like that every year again, cause I really love it.
