Album Review

Why putting out an ordinary single album if you can release a double one? The new ACCESSORY album ‘More Than Machinery’, which is a quite odd title for an album of an electro project, comes as a double CD. On the first disc you’ll find 11 brand-new tracks. The second one includes three additional new tracks, remixes and some songs taken from the never released album ‘Disabled Future’ from 1998.

Let’s begin with the first CD and after you listened to the whole disc, it gets clear on what ACCESSORY focus on: On the dance floors of the republic. This is basically not a bad idea, even if I have to admit, that I’m not a fan of pure club albums, but let’s get to the music now. The tracks are mostly arranged very straight, but the production is always on a good level and it never sounds cheap or anything. The tracks ‘Humanity’ and ‘Big and Easy’ can stand as examples for that. When I read the title ‘Tanzflächenmann’ my first thought was collaboration with AND ONE??? But it wasn’t one course, but I have to say that it might be an interesting idea for a single or compilation track. There are also some surprises on that disc, between all those floor fillers namely ‘Numbers and Bits’ and ‘Take the Chance’ coming up with a much more complex and darker arrangement. Here, the atmosphere and the various layers are more important than mere club compatibility. Especially ‘Take the Chance’, an instrumental track, is one where you can loose yourself in the depth and density of the atmosphere.

On the second CD, there are three more new tracks i.e. ‘The Shape’, ‘Fuck The Terrorism’ and ‘At the End’ for the clubbers among you followed by two remixes of album tracks and especially the remix of ‘Gegen Den Strom’ by ACYLUM beefs up the sound of the original and lays emphasis on the melodies. The “older” tracks surprised me a bit with their relatively harsh and raw sound. More edgy as well and no comparison to the newer tracks. ‘More than Machinery’ will be one of the albums on heavy rotation in the clubs as it’s full of potential candidates. The admirers of darker and edgier sound will also find some tracks they’ll love.
